France 2023 awarded the "Terrain d’Egalité" label
On 25 August, Jacques Rivoal, Chairman of France 2023, was presented with the "Terrain d’Egalité" label by Amélie Oudéa-Castera, French Minister for Sport and Olympic and Paralympic Games. Created in March 2022 by the French Ministry for Equality between Women and Men and the Fight against Discrimination, in partnership with the French Ministry of Sports, this label can only be awarded to organisers of Major International Sporting Events. Its aim is to promote gender equality, as well as prevent and combat discrimination and sexual violence in the field of sports events.
Based on an objective analysis of several criteria, and following a final audit carried out by an external body (AFNOR) last May, this "Terrain d'Égalité" label was awarded by a committee made up of representatives of the State (Ministries for Equality and Sport, DIGES), members of various French sports organisations, representatives of associations and athletes concerned with these issues.
It pays tribute to the France 2023 policy - the first major international sporting event to be awarded the label - which is based on a model of exemplarity.
In terms of tangible measures, the following has been put into place:
- In the run-up to the event, the appointment of a contact person, the implementation of parity and gender equality initiatives within France 2023 teams and within the Campus 2023 programme, and the creation of listening and reporting systems, alongside internal communications;
- During the tournament, making the event accessible to all, in an egalitarian and fair manner, taking into account the particular needs of certain groups.
