Sudamérica Rugby has confirmed the dates of the final phase of regional qualifying for Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027.
Following the initial stage of South American qualifying in 2024, four teams remain in the hunt for the guaranteed ticket to join Argentina in representing the continent in Australia.
Paraguay, who maintained their hopes of a debut Rugby World Cup appearance by beating Colombia in a play-off last year, are joined in the next round by Brazil, Chile and Uruguay.
The final phase of South American qualifying consists of home-and-away semi-finals and a two-legged championship final to decide who takes their place at RWC 2027.
Brazil host Chile in the first semi-final on 19 July before they play Los Cóndores in the revers fixture seven days later.
Meanwhile, Uruguay travel to Paraguay for the first leg of their semi-final on 26 July, with the return fixture four weeks later on 23 August.
The winners of those semi-finals will then meet in a home-and-away final between 30 August – 6 September, with the victorious team qualifying for RWC 2027.
The runners-up will have another chance to book their ticket to Australia as they take on the lowest ranked non-qualified team from the Pacific Nations Cup.
Fiji and Japan have already qualified for RWC 2027 as a result of their performance last time in France, with Canada, USA, Samoa and Tonga chasing the remaining three automatic tickets on offer through the cross-regional competition.
The team that loses that play-off will have one last chance to qualify for the showpiece tournament, through the Final Qualification Tournament.
Meanwhile, the two losing teams from South American semi-finals will have the opportunity to join them in that four-team tournament as they compete in a home-and-away play-off on the weekends of 11 and 18 October.
Belgium became the first team to secure their place in the Final Qualification Tournament when they beat the Netherlands to finish fifth in the Rugby Europe Men’s Championship 2025.
