Top tips for international visitors

Take some time to plan and understand more about travelling and the many options in England. A key thing to remember is there are considerable distances between some of the match venues. Please take this into account when planning your travel.

The following advice is not exhaustive. It is intended as a brief insight on things to consider when travelling to and around England.

  • As with any international travel there are certain requirements you must meet when entering the UK. Further information is available from UK Government.

  • If you intend travelling to the UK by air:
    • England is well connected by air both internationally and domestically with airports spread across the UK
    • Airports close to match venues in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and Birmingham all have international and domestic links

  • If you intend travelling to the UK by ferry:
    • England has several ports across the UK which are accessible both domestically and internationally. The main ports closest to the match venues are as follows; Tyne, Hull, Liverpool, Harwich, Dover, Newhaven and Portsmouth. These are operated by various transport providers.

  • If you intend travelling to the UK by train:
    • The UK is easily connected by train. You can travel to London by train from Belgium, France, The Netherlands and Germany via the Eurostar. For further information please visit the Eurostar website.
    • A BritRail Pass allows international visitors to travel across the entire National Rail network of Great Britain. This Pass comes in Flexible or Consecutive durations so you can hop on and off National Rail trains. Further information can be found here.

  • If you intend to use public transport in the UK:
    • There are multiple options to get to and around each host city using public transport. Please see Getting to the Tournament – Top Tips for more information

  • If you intend to drive in the UK:
    • Non-residents may require an International Drivers license. This must be obtained from your home country prior to arriving in the UK. To find out if this applies to you, please check here.
    • If hiring a car whilst in the country, please check with the car hire supplier for any specific requirements needed (age limits, identification)
    • Vehicles drive on the left-hand side of the road and all road signs are in English only
    • Please note that, with the exception of spaces for those that have purchased a wheelchair match-day ticket, there is very limited spectator parking at or near match venues
    • There are parking & road restrictions adjacent to many match venues and roads are expected to be busier than usual. Check before you travel and allow extra time to get around

  • Stay in Host Cities: When travelling to each host city, consider arriving the day before or staying the night of the match and enjoy everything the city has to offer across the weekend.
    • It is recommended that you book all travel and accommodation in advance of the tournament to avoid disappointment.
