ChildFund Rugby
World Rugby is delighted to announce that international development agency ChildFund has been appointed its first ever charity partner for the women’s edition of a Rugby World Cup.
This follows a hugely successful partnership for RWC2019, where more than £2m was pledged by rugby fans around the globe.
This record-breaking legacy has given more than 45,000 children from disadvantaged communities in Asia the opportunity to play, learn and lead through ChildFund’s rugby for good programmes, while also providing emergency assistance to Japanese communities impacted by Typhoon Hagibis.
ChildFund, through its rugby for development unit, ChildFund Rugby, is currently working with Oceania Rugby to provide vulnerable women and girls with the opportunities to learn new life skills to overcome challenges and become active leaders in their communities.
Funds raised through RWC2021 will be used to support ChildFund Rugby initiatives in New Zealand and Oceania which:
- give children and young people the opportunity to benefit from their participation in ChildFund Rugby’s integrated rugby and life skills learning, equipping them to overcome challenges, inspire positive social change, and take active leadership roles within their communities;
- increase the participation of girls and young women and create safe playing environments, to drive and support a new generation of Unstoppable rugby union players in the Oceania region; and
- support the creation of strong, productive, and collaborative rugby women’s networks around the globe, building effective pathways for female involvement at all levels of the game.
